Job Description

Melissa Data is looking for a full time Data Specialist for our Seattle-area Global Products Unit.

As a Data Specialist, you will organize and manage data sets used by our development and quality assurance teams as we build the next generation of global data products. The Data Specialist is not expected to have any training in software development or coding, but must easily recognize patterns in data and be comfortable using a variety of tools to manage and curate information.

A successful Data Specialist enjoys learning about other countries. They can quickly become a minor expert in the geography and postal systems of various countries and be able to work with data in a variety of natural languages. They are self-starters, highly organized, attentive to detail, and committed to producing accurate work. The Specialist has excellent written and spoken communication skills and they are comfortable working both independently and alongside others on projects that often require collective problem solving and the sharing of knowledge and skills. They contribute their ideas for improving our tools and processes as we strive to build industry leading global products.

Here are some of the projects a Data Specialist might undertake:
• Perform light data entry and manual editing of data relevant to a country build-out
• Research the postal systems and best addressing practices for a country
• Act as the subject matter expert for a country, critiquing various reference data sources, reporting inconsistencies, and answering questions
• Evaluate the suitability of a set of reference data for a given country build-out
• Create and maintain written documentation and reports for a country build-out
• Work with your supervisor and peers to review documentation and curated data to ensure that all work is completed to specifications.

Basic Qualifications:
• BA/BS degree with at least 3+ years’ experience entering and managing data in a software system
-OR- a combination of related education and work experience to equal to 7+ years
• Excellent spoken and written English language skills
• Intermediate or better proficiency in a world language, such as Vietnamese, Russian, Arabic, etc. (required 2+ years in post-high school education -OR- native proficiency)
• Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel

Preferred Qualifications:
• Strong experience with projects that required advanced research skills and high levels of attention to detail. Examples of relevant experience: Data Classification, Data Annotations, Help Desk Services, Test Case Management, Inventory Management, Localization, Local Search Support, Technical Writing, Medical Data Entry, etc.
• Self-motivated with mental flexibility to adapt to continually evolving tools and work processes
• Excellent work ethic with the ability to work effectively and constructively with diversity
• Ability to meet tight deadlines and prioritize workloads in a fast paced environment
• Ability to read foreign languages that use non-Latin scripts and orthographies (e.g. Slavic languages, Arabic, Persian, Russian, Vietnamese, etc.)
