Job Description

Primary Function:
The Safety Manager coordinates the implementation of the company’s safety policies and procedures and ensures that these documents are in accordance with government regulations. He/she supervises project safety personnel, monitors site conditions and industry initiatives in this area, introducing the best and most successful practices in the company.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manages new hire safety orientation program and provide ongoing job specific safety training.
- Trains company and subcontractor’s personnel in environmental, occupational health and safety issues.
- Perform daily site safety inspections
- Inspects site safety equipment and takes appropriate action in the event of non-compliance.
- Manages the fall protection equipment inspection procedures.
- Establishes a schedule for the preparation, submittal, review, and acceptance of Job Hazard Analysis.
- Develops, implements and maintains a comprehensive accepted Job Hazard Analysis program.
- Ensures subcontractor compliance regarding safety and health requirement.
- Compiles, analyses, and interprets statistical data related to near-miss, incidents, injuries and illnesses.
- Participates in fact finding Root Cause Analysis for injury/incident investigations and obtains accident and injury reports from job site.
- Records and manages all site safety documentation and provides detailed weekly written report.
- Participates in safety pre-construction meetings and pre-work meetings.
- Facilitates mass safety meetings and required weekly tailgate safety meetings.
- Maintains the Tool Box Talk up to date.
- Compiles materials for safety meetings, prepares agendas, and records meeting minutes.
- Manages and coordinates substance abuse testing and sets up medical clinics for new jobsites.
- Facilitates “return to work program” with employees, medical professionals, and project personnel.
- Serve as liaison for worker’s compensation reporting, case management, and record keeping and participate in client claims management process.
- Responsible for developing and maintaining a project safety budget and manual.
- Performs additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.

Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum of five years’ work experience as a Safety Manager in the construction industry is required.
- Thorough understanding of OSHA standards.
- OSHA 30-hour course card required.
- OSHA 510 course preferred but not mandatory
- Mid-rise work experience is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in safety management or relevant field is preferred but not mandatory.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be acceptable.

Knowledge and Skills:
- Great communication skills, with ability to express ideas clearly and objectively, orally and in writing.
- Comprehensive knowledge of legal health and safety guidelines
- Knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment
- Fluency in Spanish preferred but not mandatory.
- Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills.
- Ability perform according to agreed plans with minimal supervision.
- Ability to properly deal with sensitive/confidential information.
- Proficient of MS Office and ProCore preferred but not mandatory.
