Job Description


The Cost Accountant is responsible for serving the finance and accounting department in creating accurate and timely financial records for the organization. This position reports directly to the Controller, is assigned to the Accounting Department, and works out of the Fort Lauderdale, FL office location

Essential Functions:
• Responsible for the overall accountants payable and job cost functions
• Responsible for the overall accounts receivable and record of payments
• Supports monthly close process with Controller.
• Prepare monthly journal entries and general ledger reconciliations with Controller
• Assist with key areas of the corporate month-end closing process and financial reporting processes, including account analysis, and reconciliations
• Maintain strong communication with personnel across departments and outside the company, including company executives and clients to maintain the proper processing, reporting and flow of information
• Analyze Accounts Payable reports and "speak to" the numbers reported
• Help team members and other departmental staff, as needed
• Assist with special projects, as needed
• Utilize accounting IT system to facilitate processes and maintain records
• Devises, installs or controls systems for determining unit cost of products or services.
• Distributes costs between the various divisions of management and production.
• Classifies production costs into wages, material and overhead.
• Responsible for the overall payroll entries in the accounting/payroll software

• Personal Effectiveness/Credibility/ Ethical Conduct

Supervisory Responsibility:
This position may have supervisory responsibilities.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time, Exempt position which will typically involve 40+ hours a week

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected. Percentage of Travel is estimated at about 0- 15 %, but can vary based on projects

Required Education and Experience:
• Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and/ or Finance or equivalent experience in lieu of education
