LEAD CYTOGENETICS/FISH TECHNOLOGIST
Full time Day Shift
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:
Demonstrated deep knowledge, understanding and high level skills in the field of conventional cytogenetics and FISH.
Validates, runs and analyzes conventional cytogenetics and FISH analyses, summarizes the tests results utilizing ISCN nomenclature, maintains clinical and internal documentation files
Works in close collaboration with the Cytogenomics Director, supervisor and lead technologist to oversee the daily operations of the Clinical Cytogenomics laboratories.
Helps to coordinates activities to provide uninterrupted delivery of lab services.
Helps to supervises assigned technologists and technicians.
Participate in laboratory compliance activities with all regulatory and safety standards and enforces policies and procedures with quality and productivity standards.
Participates in processing and analyzing STAT case during weekends and holidays as requested.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Cytogenetics and FISH Analysis and interpretation of results.
Perform wet lab protocols if needed.
Participate in assay development and validation.
Participates in developing and maintaining of laboratory procedure manuals, clinical and internal documentation files.
Participates in supervising daily operations of clinical cytogenomics laboratory, scheduling and training staff.
Participates in compliance assurance with accreditation standards.
Perform all other duties and responsibilities as directed by the laboratory Director, Supervisor and Lead technologist.
Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the core values of the Hospital.
Involvement in resident/fellow teaching and rotation.
Frequently accepts additional responsibilities.
Frequently demonstrates initiatives in learning new aspects of lab operations.
Able to perform 100% of lab duties, including all assays, assist Supervisor for the preparation of CAP inspections.
Able to trouble shot problems with instruments and assays.
EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
Minimal BA majored in biological or chemistry or related
ASCP certification in Clinical Cytogenetics
Minimum of 5 years working experience in a clinical cytogenetics laboratory
