Job Description

The successful candidate will have leadership responsibility for the safe and environmentally compliant operation of a Kraft recovery process, multiple power boilers, electrical power generation turbines, and an effluent treatment system. Manages a staff of 10 directs and 60 indirects.

Essential Position Requirements:
• Lead and instill a strong safety and environmental compliance culture among all department members.
• Ensure adherence and compliance with corporate policies and governmental requirements relative to the operation and maintenance of pressure vessels and boilers.
• Build and maintain effective working relationships with other departments, leaders up and down the organization, and the union.
• Provide leadership to meet/exceed key operating targets in safety, environmental compliance, reliability, production and cost.
• Motivate and develop a team of salaried and hourly employees to continuously improve department performance and business management.
Investigate, recommend, and implement new equipment or process changes and/or modifications that will improve operations, productivity, and reduce costs.
• Accountable for the operating and maintenance expenses in the department.
• Facilitate planning and organization for proper maintenance and upkeep of area equipment.
• Use Reliability concepts (i.e. root cause failure analysis, operator basic care) and critical thinking skills to effectively troubleshoot and solve complex operating issues.
• Accountable for the department’s training programs (safety, compliance, and operating) for all employees in area of responsibility.
• Lead and participate in continuous improvement efforts.
• Develop vendor and supplier relationships to successfully manage our business through cost control and benchmarking.
• Maintain necessary departmental records and reports; follow up and delegate as needed for all significant problems.
• Possess excellent leadership, management, interpersonal, problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Regularly communicate, articulate, and direct departmental priorities to achieve mill and company visions.
• Experience and ability to successfully work in a team-based environment.
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering or Manufacturing
• Experience with the management of boilers
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in a supervisory role, 3 years of which involved supervising other leaders
• Experience using Microsoft Office programs such as Word (to write business correspondence), Excel (for use of spreadsheets, reporting, simple formulas) and Outlook (for internal and external correspondence)
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working with Kraft recovery process (recovery boilers, kilns, causticizing), electrical power generation, and waste water treatment
• 5 or more years of experience within a utilities segment within a manufacturing operation
• Experience working with root cause failure analysis
