Job Description


We are seeking a proven construction leader to serve as Vice President of Field Operations. This person must have significant construction management experience and the ability to deliver work on time, maintaining the highest quality, productivity and safety. This person will be responsible for all field work including hard surface, soft surface, environmental, trucking, fleet, yard management, and occasional work at the power plants. This position will work closely with the back office and will require good problem-solving skills and ability to effectively interact with crews, sub-contractors, customers, City inspectors, and homeowners. This position will have operational responsibility for the 15+ crews throughout Metro Detroit. This person will report directly to the President and have 4 direct reports.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Manage all aspects of Field Crews:
o For all crews, manage timeliness, quality, productivity and safety and ensure that each crew is properly trained in all processes and methods
• Hard Surface Crews (2 direct reports to manage the following):
o In House crews (2 crews):
 Grow our current internal crews from 2 to 4 by June. Each crew should have the capacity to pour 10 – 15K sf of 4 – 6 inch concrete a week with all-in costs not to exceed sub-contractor pricing.
o Sub-contractors (7 crews):
 Continue to recruit sub-contractors to call on to do our work
• Soft Surface, Environmental and Trucking (1 direct reports to manage the following):
o Soft Surface Crews (6 in-house crews):
 Each crew should have the capacity to complete at least 40K sf soft surface restoration a week (20 sq yards per man hour)
o Environmental Crews (2 in-house crews)
 Environmental Crews to clean up to 20 spills a week
 Response time must be within 60 minutes
 Ensure crews follow strict customer procedures
o Trucking and Provisioning
 Manage the daily operations of 11 trucks that service DTE crews
 Manage the daily provisioning of 4 DTE stations with cold patch, gravel and sand
• Manage yard and shop operations (1 direct report: yard manager)
o Repair and maintenance of fleet (1 mechanic + 1 assistant mechanic)
o Acquisition of new equipment as needed
o Sale of old equipment as needed
o Proper management of yard operations (soil screening, spoils disposal, etc)
• Establishing best practices for field work and measures of timeliness, quality, productivity and safety.
• Maintain a real-time schedule for all work being performed.
• Respond to emergency jobs immediately and ensure they are de-escalated effectively.
• Oversee the QA/Audit process to ensure that all quality standards are met, and any sub-standard work is quickly remediated.
• Managing the overall pipeline of jobs to ensure that we have adequate capacity for work.
• Review and sign of on internal crew productivity reports.
• Drive business development opportunities

• Minimum of 10 years of experience within Construction Management.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Manager or Director level role.
• Excellent leadership, management, organizational, motivational, negotiation and problem solving skills
• Ability to develop and monitor production strategies and performance metrics.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to handle high stress, focus, give attention to detail & learn new tasks quickly.
• Ability to work in a changing environment.
