Job Description

Linux Embedded Systems Engineer

Our client is seeking a highly motivated Linux Embedded Systems Engineer to be part of their New York team. The Linux Embedded Systems Engineer is responsible for design, development, and application of proprietary systems from concept to acceptance, and also to lead assigned New Product Development projects.

Linux Embedded Systems Engineer Responsibilities
· Design, write, and debug firmware programs and control systems with an emphasis on generating code that provides a pleasing User Experience (UX) (organized, structured, documented, maintainable and reusable) while working with others to implement the User Interface (UI) to meet market needs
· Maintain or improve upon software required for Linux embedded control systems, create wire-frame schematics and PCB layout using design automation tools
· Research applicable industry standards, analyze systems, create preliminary and detailed engineering designs to comply with required agency standards and certifications
· Create and review technical specifications documentation and interact with all stakeholders to gather design critical information
· Conduct detailed hardware and firmware validation testing to assure quality product; perform failure root cause analysis (RCA) on defective / suspect hardware; drive corrective and preventive action with appropriate QA group(s); plan, organize, and perform detailed electrical and/or control system design and testing activities
· Design electrical control systems (digital and analog circuitry) that will meet industry standards and commercial specifications through good engineering practices
· Ensure manufacturing, installation and operational testing conform to functional specifications and customer requirements
· Assist in developing detailed technical documentation for the technical publishing group, end users and Technical Service team
· Assume responsibility and ownership of multiple complex and large controls projects concurrently from specifications to a finished product to meet commercial launch schedule and project budget

Linux Embedded Systems Engineer Education and Experience
· 5+ years experience with controls and software development, including leading controls and software engineering projects
· Experience specifying, designing, programming and maintaining embedded Linux microprocessor-based control systems, with ability to program and modify new and existing applications
· Experience developing an effective and appealing UX and implementing a UI on commercial and industrial equipment
· Able to write, debug, flash, and interface complex microprocessor code in C / C++ / Python or a similar object-oriented language and programming development platform.
· Experience with Microchip Controllers and Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS)
· Ability to design robust safety circuits and specify components of varying industry requirements and agency standards and certification requirements
· Working knowledge of Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and other industrial communication protocols
· Experience with structured source code management & versioning systems and build environments
· Ability to structure product design, bills of material and configurations for use in a formal manufacturing environment.
· High level knowledge of MS office, Visio, Adobe Acrobat
· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Electronics and Communications or Computer Science. Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred
· Ability to travel up to 20%
