Job Description

Job Title: Lead Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic

Location: Wilkesboro, NC

Job Type: Full-Time. Great work schedule: Monday-Friday, 8 AM-5 PM (with occasional 4-hour Saturdays if desired).

Compensation: Competitive Pay including performance-based bonuses. Competitive salary commensurate with experience, overtime availability, and monthly performance-based bonuses opportunities.

We are currently seeking highly experienced Diesel/Heavy Equipment Mechanics/Technicians to join our team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, reconditioning, and replacing engines and parts on a wide variety of equipment. Cummins Certification is a major advantage (higher pay rates for certified candidates), and experience in hydraulics is highly preferred. Compensation Package:

Competitive Pay: Based on experience. Diesel/Heavy Equipment Technicians can earn between 55,000 – 85,000 / year
Bonuses: Performance-based bonus structure available.

Ideal candidates will:

Have prior experience in heavy-duty diesel/equipment diagnostics and repair (minimum 3+ years).
Be willing to learn and get Cummins Certified (if not already certified).
Possess welding skills (preferred).
Demonstrate strong computer and diagnostic skills, including familiarity with code scanners.
Have experience with hydraulic flow meter diagnostics and reading schematics.
Be well-organized, career-oriented, dependable, and capable of working both independently and within a team.
Own major tools and toolboxes (preferred)
CDL is a plus but not required.
Clean driving record.
Veterans highly encouraged to apply.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Repair and Maintenance: Diagnose, repair, and maintain various types of heavy equipment and vehicles, including diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and pneumatic equipment. Maintain and repair subassemblies, including transmissions and crawler heads, utilizing jacks, hand tools, and cranes.
Diagnostic: Utilize diagnostic equipment and calibration tools to assess faults and determine appropriate repairs.
Hydraulics & Electrical Systems: Troubleshoot and repair Hydraulic & Electrical systems.
Diagnostics and Troubleshooting: Conduct detailed inspections and operation tests on heavy equipment to identify issues and ensure optimal performance Use computerized diagnostic tools (as needed) and other equipment to troubleshoot engine, hydraulic, and electrical issues. Perform thorough tests to ensure repairs are compliant with manufacturer standards. Use precision instruments such as micrometers and gauges to examine components for wear or damage.
Equipment Overhaul: Dismantle, repair, and reassemble equipment components, including transmissions, drive systems, and powertrain components. Ensuring operational efficiency through testing and adjustment of equipment.
Fabrication and Welding: Conduct welding and metal fabrication as needed to complete equipment repairs. Weld or solder broken parts and structural members, utilizing electric or gas welding tools.
Preventative Maintenance: Develop and follow maintenance schedules for clients’ equipment, ensuring maximum uptime and efficiency for all machinery.
Safety and Compliance: Ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with OSHA and manufacturer guidelines. Mentor junior mechanics in safety protocols.
Inventory Management: Assist in managing and maintaining parts inventory for the shop. Ensure accurate ordering and stocking of parts required for repairs.
Leadership: Serve as a lead mechanic, overseeing and assisting other technicians in performing repairs, ensuring work quality, and maintaining operational efficiency.

Mechanical Repair: Proficient in using the necessary tools to repair machinery and systems effectively.
Troubleshooting: Skilled in diagnosing issues with equipment and determining the best course of action for resolving them.
Equipment Maintenance: Capable of performing regular maintenance and understanding when and what type of maintenance is required.
Monitoring Systems: Able to track equipment performance by observing gauges, dials, and other indicators to ensure optimal operation.
Operational Control: Competent in managing and controlling the operation of various systems and machinery.
Tool and Equipment Selection: Adept at selecting the right tools and equipment needed for specific tasks.
Quality Assurance: Experienced in performing inspections and tests to evaluate the quality and efficiency of products, services, or processes.
Analytical Thinking: Strong in using logic and reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions and make sound decisions.
Complex Problem Solving: Capable of identifying and analyzing complex issues, reviewing related information, and implementing effective solutions.

Qualifications:

Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of experience as a diesel/heavy equipment mechanic with significant hands-on experience in diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance of construction and forestry machinery. Prior leadership experience is a plus.
Technical Skills: Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
Certifications: Cummins certification is highly preferred but not required. Welding certification is a plus. Any relevant heavy equipment certifications are a strong advantage.
Tools and Equipment: Have your own tools for diesel and heavy equipment repairs is a plus.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy objects, work in various weather conditions, and perform physically demanding tasks.
License: CDL preferred but not required. Must possess a valid driver's license.
Personal Qualities: Trustworthy! Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to producing high-quality work. Must be a team player and able to manage time effectively.
